| Marine Debris Survey in the Pacific Northwest |
| April 2012 Research Overview: |
On April 28 through 29, 2012, we made another Asian related marine debris arrival situation research at three beaches along the coast of Washington State.
The beaches were; Ocean shores, Pacific Beach, and Moclips.

Through this survey, we found the followings.
1. Plastic bottles & caps: 16
2. Buoys and floats: 2
3. Unidentifiable large Styrofoam pieces: 2
Through this survey, we were not able to find any particular marine debris retaliated to the Japan tsunami of 2011. Tsunami related debris are approaching to the Pacific Northwest at a much faster rate than we originally anticipated by calculations based on the speed and direction of actual ocean currents. These debris have already reached the Canadian and Alaskan coast, possibly due to the strong westerly jet of this winter. As tsunami debris will most likely reach shores of Washington very soon, we will continue to track arriving debris closely.
